Structure: IgG is a 150 kDa protein which contains two heavy chains and two light chains. The molecule possesses a variable region that is composed of the light chains and one end of each of the heavy chains. The variable region imparts unique binding specificity while the heavy chain (Fcµ) constant region provides functional characteristics of the isotypic class. The IgG class contains four subclasses, IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4, each possessing different biological properties and functions.

Production: Plasma cells synthesize IgG after antigenic stimulation. The IgG synthesized will recognize and bind to the specific stimulating antigen.
